Obituary

Thomas Eugene "Tommy" Hopkins, 42, of Ordway, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Lincoln County, Colorado.

Thomas was born on June 1, 1978 in Rocky Ford to Kenneth Eugene and Dorothy Ann (Kirk) Hopkins. As a child, he loved the ranch life where he developed a strong work ethic helping many local farmers and ranchers and never met a challenge he could not do. He attended Crowley County and High School where he was a great football player. Thomas later went to Otero Junior College in La Junta studied computer support. After college, he studied and received his journeyman's electrician's license. He continued to strengthen his career over the years as an electrician. He became a mentor and taught many young electricians the trade. He recently made General Superintendent with InPwer, Inc. His great work ethic instilled in him was apparent. He loved big, difficult, challenging jobs during his career. If he was asked if he could do something, he always said yes and if he didn't have the knowledge, he sought it and gained it.

On October 3, 2012, Thomas was united in marriage to Alicia Saunders in Loveland, CO. Their journey began in 2007 through Alicia's work and there was instant love. Throughout their marriage, their fierce love towards one another was evident.

Thomas was an amazing father and husband. His children and wife were his greatest joy and always put his wife and children first. The mountains were a place of enjoyment and relaxation. Camping was big in this family. Thomas loved teaching his children how to drive out in the country all from a very young age. He wanted to make sure they would all grow up to be excellent drivers. He also loved the country lifestyle in which he grew up. Thomas marveled daily at the sunrises and sunsets. If he wasn't with his loved ones, he would call them to make sure they were looking at it too. He took great pride in returning to the family farm with his own family. He loved teaching his children how to mend fences and feed the cattle in the winter. His favorite was when it was time to work the cattle. He loved how excited the children were to round them all up and start branding. Thomas played hard and had a very strong circle of close friends he kept in continuous contact with. His close friends meant the world to him.

He is survived by his wife, Alicia Hopkins of Ordway; children, Kailyn Christine Hopkins of Athens, GA, Joy Marie (Isaac) Whitehill of La Junta, Anabella Vila Saunders, Evan Eugene Hopkins and Stormy VaNeta Hopkins all of Ordway; granddaughter, Azaleya Sophia Casas-Pena of Athens, GA; future granddaughter, Adena Ann Whitehill; father, Kenneth Eugene Hopkins of Ordway; brother, Kenneth Leon (Shannon) Hopkins of Midland, TX; grandfather, Norman Eugene Hopkins of Ordway; and grandmother, Mary Lou Goddard of Georgia, along with a niece, Daniella; a nephew, Skyler; and numerous aunts, uncle, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Ann Hopkins; brother, Michael Shane Kirk; and grandmother, VaNeta Hopkins.
