Valerie Joyce (Val) Gilman-Barrows, 55, of La Junta, CO, passed away Wednesday, April 16th, at her residence.

Valerie was born in Rocky Ford, CO on August 1, 1958, a daughter of the late Jennie Crossie (Chaparro) Torrez and Joseph Isiah Archuleta.

She graduated from Rocky Ford High School and graduated from OJC with an Associates Degree.

She worked as a Reporter at Rocky Ford Daily Gazette Rocky Ford, CO 81067.,She had also worked at Burrell Seeds and Hollar Seeds.Â

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Rocky Ford, CO.

She was a member of the Professional Business Women's Club.

She is survived by; Daughter Jenna Gilman wife of  Gabriel Trujillo, of Pueblo, CO; Brother Alan, husband of  Connie Archuleta, of Rocky Ford, CO; Brother Anthony, husband of  Lydia Archuleta, of Rocky Ford, CO; She is also survived by 3 grandchildren; Gabriel, Jubilee & Jelina; nieces: Nadine Archuleta & Paula Comerford; nephews; Joseph Archuleta & Anthony Archuleta, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Gloria Hart; Step-Dad; Manuel Torrez

A Rosary service will be recited on Friday, April 24, 2014 at 10:30 AM with a Memorial Mass to follow at 11:00 AM both in the St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford. There will be no viewing as cremation has been effected. Inurnment will take place in the Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford.
