Mr. Vernon Eugene (Vern) Proctor, 79, of Rocky Ford passed away on Monday, July 15th, 2013 at Parkview Medical Center, Pueblo, CO. Vernon was born in Rocky Ford, CO on June 23, 1934, the son of the late George Lewis and Alice Mae (McElroy) Proctor. He graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1953. Vernon was the husband of Joan (Fraser) Proctor, they were married on April 28, 1957 in Rocky Ford. He worked as a Farmer, was partners with his brother, Leonard in Proctor Feed Yard, Proctor Produce. Then he started and operated Rocky Ford Produce and farmed with his sons. Vernon grew, stored, packed and shipped onions and melons. He attended First United Methodist Church Rocky Ford, CO. He was very active in the church serving as Chairman of the Ad Council and always volunteering for special projects. He was longtime member of the Rocky Ford ELKS Lodge #1147, served on the Rocky Ford School Board, President on the High Line Canal, President of the Patterson Valley Water Co. and Board of Director for Colorado Bank & Trust in La Junta. He is survived by his wife, Joan Fraser-Proctor of Rocky Ford; Daughter Gail wife of Brian Knapp of Rocky Ford, CO; Son Vernon John husband of Yvette Proctor of Rocky Ford, CO; Son Dwight husband of Julie Proctor of Swink, CO; Daughter Peggy wife of Alan Frantz of Rocky Ford, CO; Son Matthew husband of Brooke Proctor of Rocky Ford, CO; Brother Leonard husband of Jeanna Proctor of Rocky Ford, CO; Sister-in-law Ella Proctor of Rocky Ford, CO; Sister-in-law Joanne Proctor of Pueblo, CO; Sister-in-law Shirley Fraser of Richmond, VA; Sister-in-law Elloise Fraser-Tatman wife of Hal Tatman of Rocky Ford, CO; Brother-in-law Delbert Scarbrough of Manzanola, CO; He is also survived by 16 Grandchildren: Nicholas, Melanie, Alisha, Nathan Knapp; Heath & Rhett Proctor; Natalie, Lauren, Cord Proctor; Stephanie, Cameron, Connor Frantz; Alexander, Isabella, Gabriel, Harrison Proctor; 1 Great-Granddaughter: Niquole Knapp; Nephew: Coleman Proctor and numerous other nieces and nephews. Vernon was preceded in death by: parents; sisters: Thelma Irwin, June Brown, Bonnie Ruggierie, Rosa Lee Scarbrough; brothers and sisters-in-laws: Stanley (Pearl), Lewis (Madge), Lester (Elsie), Lincoln (Virginia), Russell (Esther), Gilbert, Earl (Doris), and Carl Proctor. Memorial Services will be at First United Methodist Church, Rocky Ford, CO, at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 17th, with Rev. Leslie Barnett and Bob Nelson officiating. There will be no viewing as cremation has been effected. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 301 W. Washington Rocky Ford, CO 81067 or Arkansas Valley Hospice, 531 Lewis La Junta, CO 81050. Inurnment will be private at a later time. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home.
