Grimsley
August 2, 1940 – April 10, 2024
Virginia J. Grimsley of Colorado Springs, formerly of Rocky Ford, passed away in Colorado Springs on April 10, 2024 at the age of 83. Virginia was born in Las Animas to Roy and Anita Cooper. She graduated from Bent County High School class of 1958. She was baptized in 1940, her grandmother Cooper was injured and couldn't leave the house, so the minister from the Las Animas Presbyterian Church came to the house on Easter Sunday and baptized her. She graduated from CSU & CU with a degree in Home Economics. In 1960 she married James "Jim" Grimsley. She worked at Sunnyside Pharmacy for over 20 years, which she and Jim owned along with Frank and Greta Holder. She worked for Senator William Armstrong for over 10 years with his selection committee each year to the United States Military Academies. Virginia was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Rocky Ford. She was also a member of PEO for over 50 years.
Virginia is survived by her 2 sons: Sam (Kimberly) Grimsley of La Junta, Brett (Lorna) Grimsley of Rocky Ford, 2 grandchildren: Jay Grimsley, of La Junta, Shayla Honebein, of Brush, her sister: Alice (John) Deatherage of Las Animas, nephew Scott Deatherage of Chene, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Grimsley.
